FAQ
DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?
We are out-of-network providers with insurance companies. This means that full payment is required at time of service. You can submit a “superbill” to your insurance company for reimbursement and your insurance carrier will send any reimbursement to the policyholder. We strongly encourage you to contact your insurance carrier directly for information about your coverage.
HOW MUCH DOES AN ASSESSMENT OR THERAPY COST?
Our fees for testing and evaluation depend on the type and extent of the evaluation. Psychotherapy rates vary by provider. Please contact us to discuss your needs and we are happy to provide an estimate of costs. We understand and respect that deciding to obtain an evaluation through a licensed psychologist is an investment in your child’s future and that it is a costly expense. Please let us know if cost is a concern for you.
WHAT ABOUT PRIVACY?
As licensed psychologists, all of your information is kept confidential. We will only ever share your information or collaborate with other professionals after we have your explicit signed consent. The only exceptions to confidentiality are if we learn that someone is hurting, or has hurt, a child or elder adult sexually, emotionally or physically, in cases of neglect, or if we learn an individual is suicidal or is serious about taking the life of another individual.
WHAT SHOULD I TELL MY CHILD ABOUT TESTING?
It will vary based on the age of your child, however, in general it is helpful to tell your child they will be spending time one-on-one with a doctor who will be asking them to do things like answer questions, complete puzzles and share what they know. Some of the tasks may feel a little bit like school. It can be helpful to tell your child that everyone has things they are good at and things that are difficult for them, and it’s okay if they don’t know the answer to every question. Try to keep stress low and have the testing appointment seem like a normal part of their day.
CAN MY CHILD BE TESTED AT HOME?
We understand there can be day-to-day challenges with transportation and scheduling for some families, and difficult behaviors, fears, or sensitivities for some children. We are happy to provide concierge services (i.e. testing your child at their home or school) on a case-by-case basis if needed.
WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AGE FOR TESTING?
There is no minimum age for psychological testing. We have experience testing very young children when appropriate. We decide on a case-by-case basis if psychological testing is recommended at this time and if your child’s age is appropriate for the standardized measures that we will use to answer your specific questions. Please feel free to give us a call and we can discuss further.
